About Compost & Roots
Who writes this notebook, how the guides are tested, and what we will and won't publish.
Compost & Roots is an independent notebook about living with a little less waste: composting, feeding soil, growing food in whatever space you have, recycling properly and reusing what already exists.
The idea is simple: write down what works, the way you would in a garden notebook. Real quantities, timings, the common mistakes and what fixes them, so that someone standing next to a smelly compost bin or a tray of leggy seedlings can sort it out today.
What you'll find here
- Practical guides with real quantities, timings and the common mistakes, not just general advice.
- Honest takes on popular tips. Some green hacks work, some half work and some are myths. We say which is which.
- Small-space options. Many readers garden on balconies and windowsills, so we try to include a version that works in a flat.
How the guides are made
Each guide is researched and checked against reputable sources, such as university extension services, government environmental agencies and recognized gardening and recycling organizations. Where advice varies between regions, as with recycling rules and planting times, we say so and point you to your local authority.
Guides are reviewed and updated when we learn something new or when rules change. The date on each article shows when it was published.
What we won't do
- We won't publish advice we haven't checked against reliable sources.
- We won't claim that a home remedy replaces professional advice for health, safety or structural questions.
- We won't present sponsored content as independent advice. If we ever work with a brand, it will be clearly labeled.
